Default Everyone needs somewhere to monk rant

I know that everyone has been through this, your grouped with a monk and he goes and gets everyone kille because, well he just aint very good at it. I would like to hear some stories about monks.

My main is a monk, its my favorite profession, but some people are just not cut out to be a monk. When I am playing a monk i take my job seriously, i rarely let people die.... unless its a ele trying to be a tanking hero. I think some of the bad monks give the good players a bad name... the whole 'monk down' thing...

My worst Experience with a monk:
doing boreas seabed mission. this monk on our team had only ONE heal spell and ZERO prot spells. guess what the was... Heal Party.

My worst experience as a monk:
doing zen daijun mission. the assassin on our team told us that a guildie was going to help us. his guildmate came as an ele. while we were fighting a grou[ of mob, this "great" ele runs off alone, into the miasma, and straight into another group of afflicted, nukes them, and gets killed with afflicted explosion.

after that, he called me a noob for not healing him. he says something like, i'm already level 20, @#$%^ heal me! not even thinking that im busy healing the whole team, and he runs off by himself...

i ragequit.

honestly, i can take it if a sin runs off and dies, and apologizes afterwards. someone running off his mouth like that is just too much.

this is the reason why i stopped monking with pugs.

Well first of all, you’ll find good and less good players playing whatever professions, so monks are no exception to that rule.
You started ( no offence ) yet another thread about how bad some monks are, what they do to the Good name of monks…….all in all a thread filled with complaints and wining about others…..we who play a monk all know that a always monk will be watched by his teammates and are hold responsible for everything that goes wrong,…… its old news. there are 8 man in a party that all got to do their job
Maybe you could give this thread a twist and ask people the funny things they see other monks do, or did them self, so we can all laugh about it.

And well saying that some people are not cut out to be a monk……let’s not start that discussion…… although I think its rubbish and I gladly discuss it with you outside this forum.

It's rubbish to think that monks are extra responsible for the well being of the party. Other classes can cause mayhem too if they mess up. When I play ranger in realm of torment and I fail to interrupt rain of terrors people die. A tank messing up aggro also makes people die. Assassins tanking are a headache for monks, and sometimes people just fail to watch their healer. They expect him to heal while theres 2 foes bashing on him instead of trying to take the pressure off him.

Had a Mo/W on a B/P tombs run last night. Alarm bells were already ringing before we had even started! Noticed he was only casting Prot spirit and/or healing breeze on people. We cleared the first level while we were questioning his healing ability (he did finally say that was all the healing spells he had) and we resigned (after a few had rage quit).

Pretty common thing to find in FoW as they will join PUG's to avoid the 1k fee, while they learn where they can farm solo down there.

I onced played a bonder monk in Fow without Balt sprit on my skill bar (how did we cope before templates?)- so I was always very short of energy and couldn't cast anything but blessed sig the whole time! Luckily we had a good necro on the team, who kept topping me up with BR, otherwise it might of been a short trip and I got away with it!

i was asked to do a UW run with guildies because one of the signed in monks didn't show up, i stoped my solo run with my 55 and maped to the temple to meet them. I hurried to change my skills, because they were allready waiting for quite some time. Once in there i noticed after a while that things weren't going so well as expected.......looked at my skills again..nothing wrong...then i had a look in my inventory and saw i was still wearing 5 sups and forgot to change my attr...... i couldn't even put on a "normal " armor set because i had put it in the storage................. we had a good laugh and died a lot

My worst experience as a monk.
I was playing the good old ZB prot build in Grand Court of Sebelkeh.
People kept killing the Blasphemy every time it spawned, causing havoc to the life bars instead of closing the rifts.
I kept explaining that we should ignore him while we close the rifts, but who would listen the monk.
All I got was a "shut up, stupid monk". It finally took 25 minutes to complete this mission while it takes under 8mn with henchies.

My worst experience with a monk.
Still playing prot in Thunderhead keep. I wanted to pug it for more challenge (sadly). Even though I could remove condition every 3 seconds, the healing monks kept casting healing breeze on bleeding people.

Obviously, when we got to the king's throne, nobody would listen to me when i asked people to stay up the stairs and wait for the mobs. We didn't pass the mission and I got another "shut up stupid monk" along the way

Default A complaint thread... sounds like fun

Worst time as a monk:

Doing Nahpui Quarter in a PUG. I was the only healer in the party, with 4 W/Mos, 1 MM, 1 Nuker, 1 Ranger. I suppose I should have left the group right then and there, but I didn't care, I just wanted the mission done. We went through the portal, all but 1 (ranger), who decided to go through a different portal... and died. 1 of the W/Mos went off on his own while we were facing the Mesmer boss and he aggroed another group tried to retreat, even though I told him repeatedly to stay with us. He died and the group he aggroed came and attacked us. We killed them all and the W/Mo apolgized. So, we killed 3 bosses now, and on to the last one, with the necro controlling 10 fiends, then he left (I don't know if he lost power, or just left, but it wasn't lag, that's for sure). Also a different W/Mo went off on his own and aggroed a set of monsters. Now we are facing the Kirin Monk, some dragon spirits, turtle spirits, the celestials, the mesmer spirits and 10 minions. Then the other group that the W/Mo aggroed came in and attacked. We were down 1 ranger (we lost him, don't know where he died), 1 necro, and 1 W/Mo (he died after he aggroed). Needless to say, a party wipe. Did they blame me for it? 1 did, the others just said, oh well. That really burned me up that I was blamed.

Worst time with a Monk.

Temple Mission in Cantha - Monk was our leader and I was a Rit. Monk blamed me for everything. If someone died, it was my fault, if a patrol came from behind, it again was my fault. The leader didn't know anything about this mission, even though he claims he's done it may times. I would ping on the map if there was a patrol coming and he would ignore and aggro monsters, yes, HE would aggro. He stayed near the front lines wanding monsters and then move to the middle and heal.

Well, I could rant and rant and rant forever on about every profession in the game.
That's what playing in PuGs seems all about (I'm also reading the 'A Simple Way to Make Pugging More Attractive' thread).

It's not worth the energy.
I've seen numerous very good players and also quite a number of 'bad' ones.
If you feel like ranting, stick to heroes/hench.
Then you are the only one to blame.
If you decide to play with people, it's team effort, if the party fails it's almost never because of one bad player (there are some exceptions). If the party succeeds, it's also team effort.
So there is no need to rant then, except ranting on the whole team.

I don't blame you. The real "noobs" are the people who think having a monk is the equivalent to staying alive no matter what. Monks play a role in the party like every one else, and if someone decides to run off and do their own thing...they shouldn't be surprised if they die.

I dont bash monks as a whole, they are good, and alot of fun to play. Just some peoples choices. Monks do seem to be held up to a higher standered by people who dont play them. I do like the idea of funny stories people have done, I'll be sure to post one that I have done... just gotta dig through all the dumb things i have done. But hey everyone makes mistakes and i can forgive them for that

As for dumb things, i have a few. I recent one was when i changed all my monk skills, went out with a friend to fight high level mobs.... well we were getting beat up and i started to take a little damage, went to cast a healing spell on myself...... realized that i forgot to equip a spell to heal myself.

I was in a party doing 5-man FoW. I was using your basic bonder build. Yet for some reason every time our warrior decided to Leeroy it of the map and die. For some reason the team blames me for not keeping bonds up.

At this point i'm thinking. I'm to blame for not chasing after some Leeroy idiot that runs off the map. I ignored it, funny thing is I got all that shards on that run. Guild Wars justice. :P

Mine has always been at THK I see other Monks run with thier heads cut off running here and there although this justinst with my Monk. This is with of some of my other char say like my Ranger as no one want to camp by the king even though I do and can't heal as a Ranger.I would have to say it is those who ran through the game and those who run 55s in UW don't know how to play the role.

In my case, the person didn't even bother to apologize. We were farming and he ran himself into a mob, died, and was like, "WTF MONK??!!" He was a caster mind you.

Honestly.

I was in a situation where there were 3 Shadow Prison sins on me and the person was like, "Monk you suck!" Well I guess I couldn't blame him since he kept constantly rezzing me... while the 'sins were still on me... <<

I hate it when noobs pretend they know everything and whenever you tell them something they're like, "I know! STFU!"

I always find this funny because I'll be chasing after the tank like "COME BACK!" and then I end up dying trying to rezz him and have the whole group curse at me. Why am I such a noob?

Well as a fellow monk I've had numerous instances where I have been yelled at unreasonably and I've been in groups where the other monk sort of tanked but I wouldn't trade being a monk for anything else. I still get mad when I'm blamed for something I didn't do but it's sort of like: Well I wouldn't want to get in a party with them again. ^^

(Btw, is it just me, or has anyone ever been in a group in PvP where the other monk(s) don't do anything?)

lol yes, it annoys me, in Tombs for example, when a couple of rangers decide to stand right in the middle of 1 or 2 meteor showers, then ask me if I'm smiting when they suddenly die, un aware that i had broken into a sweat mashing every number key on my keyboard for them >.<

Other classics, like have been mentioned is pple running too far away, and then ask me why wasn't I healing them! Or what I used to do was try to follow them to heal, and it ended up with me getting killed, now I just ignore them lol.

Or spellcasters just blatently tanking, its alright for them, seems the monk is doing a good job keeping him alive, but you do burn out alot of energy needlessly when they could just run away from them ¬¬

Ive come across a few monks who seem to be heal/smite. Especially annoying if your a bonder, spamming dismiss condition on a member whilst the other monk is off casting bane signet, and healing breeze now and then *sigh*.
I've nothing against smiter monks, but its annoying when they claim to be a healer monk ^_^

Oh yes Heavenly Lily, my templates messed up just before entering a pvp match, resulting in me having an empty skill bar for the whole of the match. I embarrassed, but a guildie insisted I stayed in the group, so i just kept quiet and followed them round, funny thing was no one actually noticed ^_^... we lost though

This does not count for all tanks.

I hate it when I'm monking people do stupid stuff and blame me. But I usually get my revenge, if they are hating on me cuz of their incompetence I stop healing them, they keep dieing and after 3 or 4 more deaths I say "See I can heal cuz no one else dies, your just being stupid."

actually this is kind of funny we had a group going into fow looking for a second monk a healing monk to be specific. we spammed for several minutes and we get a monk that requests to join. we get in and this monk runs and grabs aggro of the aaxtazxes and proceeded to kill. so obviously the most of the group was wtf and basically left. me being the other monk in the group decided wth ill stay and watch this monk go at it. i got about 4 ectos and the monk that was 55 ing didnt get any which made me laugh seeing a warrior who left had payed. i ended up seeing a 55 for the first time in action and went on to learn the build myself. i found it funny that all the group left when it was one person killing for free loot

Amen. Also 90% of the time I run mainly heal. For that other 10% that I do prot, I want to curl up into fetal position and suck my thumb. Theres very little I can do (aside from preprotting) and it frustrates the hell out of me. Keep in mind, I'm referring to non-hybrid protting.

BTW, Infuse makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside when I have it on my bar ^^
